It’s been one year since I took off from Australian Soil (12.15am 25 April – ANZAC Day). As seems fitting, I look back on that year and what I’ve done and what has changed. I also wonder about the lives of all my friends and family that I haven’t seen over this time and what their year was filled with.

My first sights of Moscow were as the plane descended and so did the sun, burning the sky crimson as it disappeared beyond the horizon. My Russian friend, Victoria, met me at the airport and drove us back to her house. We past large shopping centres on the way - some lit up like a Vegas casino and I stared out the window trying to decipher the words written in the Cyrillic Alphabet without much luck. The only word I could figure out thanks to the golden arches was the McDonald’s sign.
What would you do if given the chance to mingle with the rich and famous at a film awards show in a top London hotel??? Go buy a new dress of course! And that’s exactly what I did after finding out I’d be attending the 27th London Film Critics Circle Awards at the Dorchester hotel.
I woke up tired (I had worked until late the night before), cold (since the central heating in my apartment wasn’t working) and grumpy (pretty much because of the two previous factors) and dragged myself out of bed to get ready for work. Just as I was getting dressed my phone rang. ‘Look out your window,’ I was told. A bit puzzled, I did as I was told, to discover a winter wonderland. Snow!!
For those who don’t know, the ‘Metro’ is the free morning paper available every weekday in London. On Tuesday (14/11/06) a few of its articles had me giggling, so I thought I would share them with you.
